Is Hinge worth paying for? Hinge+ and HingeX explained

For a lot of people, no. Hinge’s free tier is unusually complete: you can match, message, see your incoming likes (one at a time), send a free Rose every week and filter by religion and relationship type without paying. The paid tiers earn their keep in a narrower set of situations, mostly when you’re running out of likes, drowning in incoming ones, or need filters Hinge reserves for subscribers.

Here’s how to tell which group you’re in. Everything below is from Hinge’s help center and US App Store listing, checked November 4, 2026.

Start with what free already covers

Hinge’s subscription benefits page is blunt about the free tier. It includes:

Matching and messaging with no paywall on chat.
A daily like allowance. Hinge’s mission page puts it at eight free likes a day and says more free likes made matches worse.
One free Rose a week. Roses jump to the top of the other person’s Likes You screen. Free Roses don’t stack, so use it or lose it.
One Undo Skip a week, resetting every seven days.
Standouts, a daily feed of profiles getting a lot of attention, open to everyone.
Most Compatible, roughly one recommendation a day that expires after 24 hours.
Core filters: gender, distance, age range, ethnicity, relationship type and religion, per the preferences article.

That’s enough for most people to find out whether Hinge works in their area. Pay before you know that and you’re paying to see more of a pool you haven’t tested.

What Hinge+ adds

Hinge+ is the first paid tier. It adds four things:

Unlimited likes, instead of the daily cap.
All incoming likes at once, instead of one at a time, plus sorting by Last Active and Nearby.
Unlimited Undo Skips on your most recent skip.
Advanced Dating Preferences: height, dating intentions, children, family plans, politics, education level, and drinking, smoking, marijuana and drug use.

What HingeX adds on top

HingeX includes all of Hinge+ and three visibility features:

See Compatible People Sooner pushes profiles Hinge thinks suit you to the top of your Discover feed.
Get seen by more daters is an always-on, lighter version of Boost that runs for as long as you’re subscribed.
Priority Likes: every like you send stays near the top of the other person’s Likes You list for seven days, then becomes a regular like. They look the same as normal likes, so nobody knows.

The Subscriber Experience page adds a detail worth knowing: Roses still sit above Priority Likes. HingeX helps you get seen; it doesn’t outrank a Rose.

What it costs

Hinge sells weekly, monthly, three-month and six-month plans, per its subscribing guide. It doesn’t publish a price list. On iPhone you can pay through the App Store or through Hinge’s own payment option (powered by Stripe), and you see your offer in Settings under Subscribe to Hinge.

The US App Store’s public in-app purchase list on November 4, 2026 showed:

Apple doesn’t label the length beside each price, and the “Hinge Subscription” and “Membership” lines don’t say which tier they belong to. We couldn’t confirm a per-tier, per-length price from an official source, so read this as the range you’re likely to see, not your quote. Prices can differ by account, platform and promotion.

When paying makes sense

You keep hitting the like cap. If you regularly use all your daily likes on people you’d genuinely date, unlimited likes is the most direct upgrade. If you’re hitting the cap by liking everyone, Hinge’s own advice in its no-matches article is to send quality likes over quantity, because the algorithm learns from what you like.

You have a long Likes You queue. Seeing one like at a time is fine when you get a few a week. If you’re getting dozens, seeing them all at once and sorting by Nearby saves real time.

A specific filter is a dealbreaker. If you won’t date a smoker, or you need to know someone wants kids, those filters sit behind the paywall. That’s a fair reason to pay for a month.

You’re in a competitive area and want visibility. That’s the HingeX case. The always-on boost and Priority Likes are the only paid features that change who sees you, rather than what you see.

When it probably isn’t worth it

You haven’t finished your profile. Hinge requires four to six photos and three prompt answers. Its matches article lists the photos that tend to get more likes (ones showing your interests, candid shots, smiles, photos with friends or pets) and fewer (selfies, filters, sunglasses). Fixing those is free.

You’re getting matches but chats stall. No tier fixes conversation. Hinge’s Your Turn Limits apply to subscribers too, so paying doesn’t let you collect matches you’re not replying to.

You want a single standout moment. If there’s one profile you really want to reach, a pack of Roses is a cheaper, more targeted buy than a subscription. Roses you purchase don’t expire until used.

How to try it without regret

Pick the shortest plan your screen offers and set a reminder. Hinge subscriptions renew automatically, and Hinge says to turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the next billing period. If you paid through Apple, Apple handles cancellations and refunds. If you paid with Hinge’s own payment option, Hinge’s refund page says it can look at subscriptions bought in the last 14 days, and residents of 12 listed states, including California and New York, can request a full refund within three business days.
